The Lei Making Methods
HAKU, the arrange-in-a-braid method.
The construction method in which flowers, leaves and fruits with stems
of two to three inches were added to a three-strand plait of ferns,
dried banana stalk skin,
hau bast or ti leaves. Materials with supple, tough stems were best
suited for this technique, since they too, became a part of the braid.
